IDF decorations awarded for actions during "Operation Protective Edge"

The IDF on Monday awarded citations to dozens of soldiers for their courageous actions during last summer’s conflict in the Gaza Strip, including some decorations given posthumously. In total, 67 citations were given during a ceremony at the Palmachim air base, which was attended by Israel Defense Forces commander Lieutenant General Benny Gantz and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon. The highest decoration, a Distinguished Service Medal, was awarded to Lt. Eitan Fund, 24, who rushed into a tunnel to try and stop the kidnapping of Hadar Goldin during an ambush near Rafah on August 1, 2014.
